Neighbor announced a five-show residency at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, Massachusetts on January 8, 2024. The Boston quartet turns five this year, and the run is billed as its fifth-anniversary residency, one week for each year the band has existed.

The residency will run on five consecutive Tuesdays: February 20, February 27, March 5, March 12 and March 19, 2024. The band promised “no repeats, special guests, new debuts, art/photo exhibits and vendors, and much more.”

The closing night on March 19 carries a second marker. The band says it will be Neighbor’s 250th show.

A callback to Thunder Road

The band framed the booking as a nod to its early weekly Tuesday-night residency at Thunder Road in Somerville, Massachusetts, the club where Neighbor cut its teeth after forming in 2019.

Richard James started that residency while touring hard with Pink Talking Fish and wanting an outlet for original music, recruiting his childhood neighbor Lyle Brewer on guitar. The band’s name comes from that.

James plays keys and sings. Brewer plays guitar. Dan Kelly plays bass and Dean “The Dux” Johnston plays drums.

Day jobs shape the calendar

Two members teach. Brewer is a guitar instructor at Berklee College of Music, and Johnston is a jazz and private music tutor at Milton Academy outside Boston.

Tickets

A presale opens Tuesday, January 9 at 12 p.m. ET under the code SILVER, covering single-night tickets and a limited number of five-night passes.

General public on-sale follows on Friday, January 12 at 12 p.m. ET.

What the presale code points at

The code points at Silver, the concept album James and Brewer wrote in James’s barn the year the band formed. It runs eleven songs split into six chapters, following the two of them as they leave Earth with a guide named Milwaukee Talkie and go looking for a more peaceful planet.

Two Upstate dates before the residency starts

Ahead of Pembroke, Neighbor play Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs on January 19, their first appearance in that city, followed by Levon Helm Studios the next night.
