Chuck Garvey Will Sit In With moe. on New Year's Eve

Founding moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey will sit in as a special guest for a portion of the band’s New Year’s Eve show at The Fillmore Philadelphia, his first appearance with moe. in over a year.

Guitarist Al Schnier delivered the news during his customary pre-encore “Al.nouncements” at the band’s show at The Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colo., reading a note from Garvey aloud from the stage. The announcement came exactly one year to the day after Garvey suffered a stroke in November 2021.

“This year has been a really long, difficult one for me, but a rewarding one, in that I learned what a person needs to do to achieve goals,” Garvey wrote in the note.

A partial set, not a full return

The band has not announced any plan for Garvey to return full time. The New Year’s Eve appearance is billed only as a special guest slot covering part of the show.

During Garvey’s absence, moe. performed with fill-in musicians including Michael “Suke” Cerulo and Nate Wilson.

What else is on the New Year’s Eve bill

New Haven, Conn. four-piece Eggy opens the show. The Horn Section, a three-piece horn group featuring former members of Turkuaz, performs with moe. throughout the night.

The date follows the band’s appearance at the North Beach Music Festival in Miami Beach and a handful of Rob & Vinnie shows with BlueStar Radiation.

Two months after Lake George

moe. headlined the Adirondack Independence Music Festival at Charles R. Wood Park in Lake George, N.Y. over Labor Day weekend, playing four sets across two nights.
