The Disco Biscuits Part Ways With Drummer Allen Aucoin After 20 Years

The Disco Biscuits announced on October 26, 2025 that the band and drummer Allen Aucoin have parted ways, closing a run of two decades and more than 1,000 shows together.

The statement was posted to social media and came from co-founding members Jon Gutwillig, Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner. “After much consideration, we’ve decided to part ways with Allen,” they wrote.

Marlon B. Lewis has taken over drumming duties. Lewis studies at Berklee College of Music and plays with Brownstein in Star Kitchen.

Twenty years that began with a drum off

Aucoin joined The Disco Biscuits in the fall of 2005, winning the seat through a drum off competition held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He replaced founding drummer Sam Altman and went on to play more than 1,000 shows across two decades, a stretch that takes in the band’s work covered here on Lake Shore Drive.

Rumors of the split had circulated on fan forums over the preceding weekend before the band confirmed it.

The band’s account of the decision

The three co-founders said the decision followed years of reflection over communication, creative direction and connection on and off stage, and stated that it was not financially driven.

“While this news may feel sudden, it comes after many years of reflection, conversations, and attempts to work through challenges,” they wrote.

Aucoin publicly characterized the split as the band moving forward without him, and likewise said it was not solely financially driven. Gutwillig posted a track titled “I Don’t Talk” that appeared directed at Aucoin, later removing it from SoundCloud.

The schedule holds

All remaining Fall 2025 tour dates and 2026 shows are confirmed to proceed as scheduled.

The band’s next dates are three performances at Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, Florida on October 31 and November 1, 2025.
