Gov't Mule Release 'Peace... Like A River' Ahead of a Three-Night Upstate Run
The band's 12th studio album lands June 16, 2023 on Fantasy Records with guests from Billy F Gibbons to Billy Bob Thornton, and the tour behind it takes in SPAC, Bethel Woods and Darien Lake in one week.

Peace… Like A River, Gov’t Mule’s 12th studio album, is out today, June 16, 2023, on Fantasy Records. The 12-song record was cut at The Power Station New England with Warren Haynes producing and John Paterno co-producing.
The record carries a broad guest list. Billy F Gibbons sings on it, Billy Bob Thornton takes “The River Only Flows One Way,” Celisse appears on “Just Across The River,” and Ivan Neville and Ruthie Foster both turn up on “Dreaming Out Loud,” which was the album’s lead single.
Orchestral arrangements are credited to The Kerhonkson Philharmonic. A deluxe edition adds a five-track bonus EP.
What Haynes says about the arrangements
“Peace…Like A River is very ambitious from a musical arrangement standpoint in the way that a lot of the songs take twists and turns,” Haynes said.
The track list runs “Same As It Ever Was,” “Shake Our Way Out,” “Made My Peace,” “Peace I Need,” “Your Only Friend,” “Dreaming Out Loud,” “Head Full Of Thunder,” “The River Only Flows One Way,” “After The Storm,” “Just Across The River,” “Long Time Coming” and “Gone Too Long.”
The band on this album cycle is Haynes on guitar and vocals, Matt Abts on drums, Danny Louis on keyboards, guitar and backing vocals, and Kevin Scott on bass.
It follows Heavy Load Blues, the band’s previous studio record.
Three Upstate amphitheatres in three nights
The 2023 touring behind the record puts Gov’t Mule in New York State for a straight run at the end of July: Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on July 28, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel on July 29, and Darien Lake Amphitheater in Darien Center on July 30.
A world tour follows
A Peace… Like A River world tour adds a 21-date North American leg opening September 13, 2023 in Toronto, then an 11-show European and U.K. run in November 2023.
